My garage is too small, too dark, and too far away. While I look for more accessible space I'm building a touch-sensitive tablet Macintosh and ridding myself of flotsam.

NEWS
26.7.05: Ooooh, racing rocks. Gotta finish that iBook soon because the racing bug which bit fifteen years ago has finally broken cover and is taking over. Fourth place in the Production Twins race Saturday afternoon at Loudon and I was _this_close_ to that trophy. We go back and I get another shot on Aug 6th.
18.7.05: Added a bunch of topcase pics, sorted out speaker interference, and thinking I'm finally ready to button-up the bottom half of this project. For the record there are nine factory screw-anchors in the topcase. I've added seven more. Of course I spent much of today wondering if I could make the whole thing thinner by shortening (or eliminating) the factory hinge-mounts; since the top of the unit is attached with anchors at the four corners, do I really need the strength of the hinge assembly? Prolly not but it seems I need the clearance for the power jack and the Trolltouch transformer. We'll see if I can shrink this once it's 'finished'.
14.7.05: Got sidetracked with a quick test assembly (yes the Trolltouch is upside down in this pic). The topcase is done but for the sleep switch mount, which I really need since the unit will otherwise always think it's closed. For this I found a Radio-Shack slide-switch that fits perfectly into the slot vacated by the original open button which will end up on the top edge of the unit. Perfect.
In other matters I think I'm forgoing bluetooth - for this kind of unit the benefit just isn't there - yet. So once the topcase is anchored properly I can move on the spacer ring needed to hold the TT (the original point of it all). More this weekend.
8.7.05: Using new caching software/service which should help me to never get slashdot'ed (though it hasn't happened yet). It all seems very cool and even more solid but please let me know if you have image load issues.
7.7.05: Garage space seems iminent! So I've got to wrap up the iBook tablet soon. I finally got most of the pics up on the site here and re-vamped the iBook section. The topcase (what would be the topcase in a normal iBook - the wrist-rest and keyboard surround) is almost finished. Ironic that the part receiving by far the most work will ultimately be burried and un-viewable in the middle of the unit.
5.6.05: To the guy who called about the Sony Pre-Amp - YES it's for sale. My voicemail ate your message before I copied out your phone number; please call back.
Gawd I live amongst so much stuff that it owns me. Please take a look at the soloflex, stereo gear, and computer parts in the For Sale section.
Added details of the touch-sensitive-screen iBook/tablet computer project.
27.3.05: Quite a bit of detail specs and info has collected over the years so I've added a 'garage / tech' section to hold it all. Dimensions, compatibility, etc. I take pride in being accurate so if you see something that doesn't make sense please let me know and we can argue it out.
18.2.05: Holy cow, mere days from a full year since this got an update... So much for "blog style"! Ha. There's been progress, but not as much as I wanted. Amazing what moving does to EVERYTHING ELSE in your life. Amazing I don't seem to learn that after three moves in four years. I'll add also that you never appreciate a local personal garage until yoy don't have one.
I've added a bunch of pics and commentary to the frankenviffer pieces parts changes. See them in the sub-sections of the VFR750 link on the left.
