Front BrakesI wanted better brakes. VFR brakes have always seemed weak, especially against RC30 or Guzzi brakes. So I got SP-1 forks which had the bolt-on caliper hangers, and then chose Gixxer 1000 6-piston Tokiko calipers. Surprise! The mounting holes line up with the stock Honda caliper brackets.Honda 954 '330 mm' (actually 328mm) rotors fit up to a stock SP-1 front wheel (which I'm using), so I grabbed two sets on ebay and they seemed to fit more or less when I mocked things together. As it turned out, rotors fit and the calipers mount, but the orientation of the Gixxer versus CBR calipers is slightly different so they don't fit when rotors are present... It wasn't that bad, though, and I figured I didn't really need all of the Honda's 328mm since I was upgrading from stock 296mm with 2-pistons. I had a friend with a large lathe turn down the rotors to 325.5mm, then went to town on the calpiers to get them to clear the rotors. I trimmed the pad material to clear the rotor buttons for assembly but of course final fitment will require that I grind down the backing plates so that they never have a chance to contact the buttons.
